SOUNDTRACK - DAY 2 b
Things are rolling along nicely! I’ve tweaked the snare drum a little more to get it to sit a bit nicer without taking over the upper mid frequencies too much. I also ran the acoustic guitar stereo buss through PSP’s Vintage Warmer2 which really brought them forward, along with a little boost around 875Hz area. Added a little cymbal and tom play to the main drums, which sound great. I think one of the most things most often overlooked in drum programming is incidental cymbal work. It’s so vital to helping people forget they are programmed. I try hard to disguise that fact in my work, and cymbals always help. There is no substitute for real drumming, however, when that’s what your trying to sound like… But sometimes time and logistics are not easily overcome, so programming is your only choice. I also edited the electric guitar parts I lay down earlier into two separate parts, and processed them, and they are quite sweet. Like a sugar coating on this sort of Floyd-ian intro piece. I’m a bit sad it’s so obviously pulling from one of my all-time favourite band’s palette, but that’s ok…the album very quickly departs from this comfortable sound into something wholly different… I don’t lean on it too much. Just enough to get folks in the door, so to speak. After that, the headphones fuse themselves to their heads, and they can’t stop listening anyhow.
Tomorrow is Friday, and I have admin paperwork to do, invoicing and such. Yawn. Glad I could squeeze a little more into today then!
