Radiohead - Missed Opportunity?
I got up this morning and smiled, realizing today was the day I could d/l the new Radiohead album, In Rainbows. In checking the usual sites, I read about people who’ve already downloaded the album, and of course the truckload of digital noise about this crazy new business model yadda yadda…. (which I won’t add much too, I promise).
Except to say that if you are Radiohead, and you decide to handle your own distribution, and you make the big splash in the media about the cutting-edge forward thinking “let-customers-decide-how-much” payment model you’re going to use, is it so much to ask to ensure you can handle the traffic to your servers?
I know, minor gripe…and it’s probably more complicated than I give it credit for, but I’ve tried 4 times this morning to PAY for this album so I can listen to it today in the car, and the whole thing hangs when going to the payment page. Which, if you’re not Radiohead, might be understandable. But if you are Radiohead…..what gives?
All that said, I’ve found a ‘friend’ who’s already got it, so I’ll be able to get my fix today, and will return to PAY for my own copy another time when the crush of the curious public isn’t quite so crippling.
