New Gear - Monitors and DAW
Yesterday the ol’ DAW got dropped off for a refit by Tim at www.GPSystems.ca on Bank Street. Tim is a super guy and very knowledgeable about everything PC and DAW. Looks like I’ll soon be pumping out the jams on a box fitted with a DP35DP motherboard carrying an Intel E8400 processor. From what I can dig up online, both are very solid and come highly recommended. I’m really hoping this upgrade will eliminate some of the problems I’ve been experiencing on my system in the last year or so. At least it ought to be way faster. :) We’re going to start with that, but soon after I think I’ll upgrade the main HD to a 10000 SATA drive, and then 2 more SATA drives for projects and samples, perhaps setup on a RAID. Very cool. I highly recommend you visit or drop Tim a line if you’ve got questions about this kind of stuff, he’s a great resource who really will take the time to make sure you’re getting top service.
In other news, I recently upgraded my monitoring situation with some Dynaudio BM6A nearfield monitors. Awesome is about the only word I’ve got that really does them justice. The stereo field has so much more room, the little details in a mix are as clear as day, and the bottom end is tight and punchy but audible so I can actually mix it. They were not cheap, but I think the mixes I’ve done already show that they’ll prove invaluable to my setup. I have more trust in these monitors and mix portability than I have yet in my studio, which was the reason I did it.
Hooray for new gear!!!!
