Holiday Music!
I am a total sucker for Christmas music, can’t help myself. So much so that every year for the past few I’ve been recording versions of some of my family’s Christmas favourites as a gift to both them and close friends. Last year, late in the season, I discovered the Podsafe Music Network, and uploaded loads of music to it, including my Christmas catalogue. It’s funny, and awesome too, that I get tonnes of podplay from my Christmas music. Sadly, last year’s version of Sleigh Ride was completed too late to enjoy the Christmas season of airplay, and I just discovered that for some reason I had posted it up there as an mp3, but with a sample rate of 48k, which doesn’t translate well for Flash players. So, as I see the podshows playing my other Christmas music are coming in fast and furious, I’ve replaced that track with a normally rendered one that plays fine on all players. I want to thank all of the people who are graciously including l’il ol’ me on their podshows, your support is awesome! I’m putting together a page JUST to pimp your shows, look for it in a few days. Folks, you’ve got to check some of these shows out…fantastic stuff. Radio is becoming such a non-part of my life these days.
Strangely, I had never included Sleigh Ride on my own songs page here, so consider it done! 4 Christmas favourites, which, btw, mark the progression I’ve had through the home recording process, beginning with Little Drummer Boy about 2 weeks after I purchased my soundcard in the hopes of doing some kind of recording at home that sounded better than 4 track cassette. I’m not sure that one did, back in 2002, but each song marks a different set of goals for me in terms of production and production “magic”. They make an interesting chronology of my development as a home-based recording dude. Somewhat ironically, every year I lament the fact that I waited until mid-December to start, promising myself I’d start in the summer next year so I can really polish things up….never works. I just can’t start doing it until the snow flies. How can you impart Christmas in July? It cannot be done. At least not by me.
But I’m happy to report that work is progressing (alarmingly) slowly on this year’s tune, Jingle Bell Rock. I’ve got to have the CD in the mail next week…no pressure. :)
